BOARD OF MISSION IN IRELAND
HOME & IRISH MISSION
Cavanaleck & Aughentaine Presbyterian Churches – Revd Colin Dickson
Prayer and Praise for:
Give thanks that God really blessed the Outreach Week (Monday 18 – Friday 22 July) in Fivemiletown. The PCI team along with the congregations worked extremely hard to reach approximately 130 children and young people each day at various events with the Gospel. We are delighted that God in His grace and mercy moved nine children to commit their lives to Christ, and that some teenagers recommitted their lives to Christ.
Thank God for the PCI team and the willing involvement from the congregations.
Pray for the new converts that they will continue to follow Jesus and also get established in the local church.
Pray for our follow up as we have given out Bibles, Bible study notes and will be writing to each child and young person to monitor their spiritual growth.
Praise God for the response from the community and pray that we as congregations will use this summer outreach as a platform for more outreach into our community.
Please pray for the Joint 24/7 prayer event with Cavanaleck & Aughentaine and the local Church of Ireland and Methodist Churches in September. We plan to have joint Sunday evening services throughout September; pray for the attendance and response to teaching on prayer.
As part of our joint 24/7 prayer initiative in September, the Methodists have asked for and been given a shop front to enable the three main denominations to host a prayer room in Fivemiletown from Monday 5 September to Sunday 11 September. Pray that not only will the Christians in the community respond and come along to the prayer room to pray, but that the whole community will take the opportunity to come to be prayed with or bring prayer requests.
Pray for the organising, planning and manning of the prayer room, but most of all that God would pour out His Spirit and move us all to prayer and that we would see a measure of renewal and revival amongst the churches and our community.
Sligo & Boyle Presbyterian Churches – Revd Alan Mitchell
Pray for:
Pray for our government which needs wisdom and guidance in coping with increasingly difficult financial and economic circumstances.
Pray for the hundreds of thousands of people for whom current cuts are beginning to hurt deeply, causing frustration, anger, resentment and street protests.
Pray that God will raise up from within our churches, leaders with a prophetic voice for our country for these days in which we are living.
Pray that a wave of revival will sweep through our country right up to the highest level and may such a revival, in the words of John Quincy Adams, “connect in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity”.
Dublin - David Boyd, Irish Mission Worker
Dolebusters, our government funded Community Employment (CE) scheme, will close in the coming months. FAS, the government department that provided the funding has been very complimentary of Dolebusters and has described it as the pilot for their own network of Employment Services Offices. However, in the current economic climate they are viewing this as a duplication of services and they have decided not to renew our funding.
Prayer and Praise for:
Please pray for us as we try to find alternative employment for our CE and full-time staff.
Our Job Club at Abbey Presbyterian is unaffected by this decision and continues as normal, so please also keep it in your prayers.
We must also remember to give thanks for the opportunity God gave us to be a blessing to the thousands of people who had their lives changed through contact with Dolebusters, and especially for those who came to faith through the Alpha course.
